A lawmaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Doctor Farah Dagogo, has condemned the activities of Boko Haram in some states of the north during the Ramadan fast.
Dagogo, who represents Degema constituency, made the condemnation, in a chat with Assembly press corps in his office in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
The lawmaker, who congratulated Muslims in the state on their Eid-el-fitri celebration, said the activities of the sect has claimed a lot of lives and displaced thousands from their homes.
The lawmaker also expressed dismay that members of the sect would carry out attacks even when Muslims were observing their holy month.
He said: “I want to congratulate Muslims in the state for their successful Ramadan fast, and their Eid-el-fitri celebration.
“Let me also use this opportunity to condemn the activities of Boko Haram attacks on innocent Nigerians during the Radan fast, especially in the northern part of Nigeria that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced many others from their homes.
“What Nigeria needs now, is a concerted effort towards speedy development and I want to state that these senseless killings is negatively affecting us as a people. There can be no development without peace and we as a nation must all contribute to a peaceful environment to gain our place among comity of nations,” he stated.
He, therefore, called on Muslims to utilize the tenets of the Eid-el-fitri, which hinges on love, peace and sacrifice, in contributing to the peace and development of Rivers State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
