There was panic in Makurdi, Benue State capital yesterday when armed robbers numbering over 10 stormed the residence of former Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, MaKurdi, Prof. Daniel Uza at Judges Quarters.
Prof. Uza was said to be away at about 12 noon when the robbers came and the robbers tied one of his servants up and held him hostage for a long time.
According to an eye witness, the robbers abandoned the servant in one of the rooms and embarked on a thorough search of the entire house looking for money. While they were busy doing that, the servant whose identity was not disclosed, untied himself, escaped and informed the police who quickly responded and cordoned the area.
The state police spokesman, ASP Daniel Ezeani who confirmed the incident said one of the robbers climbed and hid himself in the ceiling and was being pursued by the Police while the others, according to him locked up themselves in a room in the house.
Ezeala also said that all persons found in the house have been apprehended awaiting the return of Prof. Uza who was said to be on his way back from a trip to identify his family members.
