A 4-man-robbery-gang has shot dead a businessman inside his shop in a robbery operation at Amasiri in Afikpo north local government area of Ebonyi State.
The hoodlums were said to have robbed a warehouse in the area before proceeding to the deceased shop and shot him severally.
The victim, who could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
A resident of the area, Amadi Clement, told our correspondent that the hoodlums shot sporadically to scare people before they commenced operation.
He added that the Afikpo divisional police command was contacted and a team of policemen thereafter stormed the area moments after the robbers had completed their operations and fled the scene.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP George Okafor, confirmed the incident but dismissed the claim that the hoodlums robbed warehouses and shops.
He explained that a team of policemen from the area command and safer highway repelled the robbery attack.
He also confirmed that the hoodlums shot one person who later died on the way to the hospital.
