EKITI State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has congratulated Muslims in Ekiti, Nigeria and the world at large and indeed all Nigerians on the celebration of yet another sallah and urged all citizens to adhere to the tenets of peace being preached by the Islamic faith. Citing the Holy Quran: 2, 208, which says: “O you who believe enter absolutely into peace (Islam), do not follow in the footsteps of Satan. He is an outright enemy to you.” The governor, who also distributed rams to Muslim faithful across the state, urged them to pray against the economic recession being witnessed in the country. According to him, “hunger doesn’t know Muslims or Christians and that shows that we should join hands together to help our nation at this challenging period. Help us pray to God to restore our glory because the country is already entrapped and we should pray to almighty Allah to deliver us from this situation”. Fayose called on “leaders to do what they are expected to do and direct their followers. We must not use our position to oppress others because they are not toeing our ways. We must change our ways ad practice our religion as Christians or Muslims faithfully”, Fayose noted. Fayose said the word ‘Islam’ means ‘peace’ in Arabic and that it is a religion revealed to mankind with the intention of presenting a peaceful life where the infinite compassion and mercy of God manifest on earth. The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, and made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, yesterday, also urged all Muslims in Ekiti to ensure that they adhere to these tenets of Islam and live in peace with one another, regarding everyone that comes their way as brothers and sisters. “We are all one another’s keeper and so we should leave peacefully, tolerate one another and most of all persevere in this era of economic recession which I am sure will be short-lived.” Governor Fayose, who enjoined Muslims and all Ekiti people to extend the same love gesture to his government by praying and supporting him, urged Nigerians at large to pray for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari and his team for God to give them the inspiration, wisdom and knowledge to lead the country and take her out of the current woods into a desired eldorado. “At this season of the celebration of God’s gift and revelation of the peaceful religion of Islam, we should love one another, persevere in the face of biting economic situation and pray for God’s wisdom, inspiration and knowledge for our leaders to lead us well and take our state and the country to greater heights in all ramifications,” he said
