It beats my imagination to fathom that the same-sex controversy is taking the centre stage even at the global level today. Wait a minute; to call it same-sex marriage is to give the peculiar sin a beautiful toga. Simply put, the sin is called sodomy, homosexuality and lesbianism. While the first two has to do with a man cohabiting or marrying a fellow man, the last relates to two females doing same.
At the last count, same-sex marriage had become legal nationwide in the Netherlands (2001), Belgium (2003), Spain (2005), Canada (2005), South Africa (2006), Norway (2009), Sweden (2009), Portugal (2010), Iceland (2010), Argentina (2010), Denmark (2012), Brazil (2013), France (2013), Uruguay(2013), New Zealand (2013), the United Kingdom (2014), Luxembourg (2015) and the United States (2015).
Israel does not recognize same-sex marriages performed on their territory. Same-sex marriages performed in foreign jurisdictions are recorded strictly ‘for statistical purposes’, thereby avoiding official recognition of same-sex marriages by the state. And in Nigeria, our statute forbids it with a short jail term of 14years prescribed for offenders. But we must not lose sight of the growing influence of the International Lesbian and Gay Association, ILGA whose worldwide federation of about 1100 member organisations from 110 countries is vigorously campaigning for lesbian, gay, transsexual and intersex rights.
God’s plan for marriage
The foregoing development underscores the need for us all to go back to God’s plan for marriage in Genesis 1:27-28 inter alia: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.
There are a lot other injunctions relevant to the above which the world today has hardened its heart to. Some are:
1 Corinthians 7:2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.
Genesis 24:67 Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
Bottom line in the foregoing Bible quotes is the fact that marriage is an exclusive union between one man and one woman, publicly acknowledged, permanently sealed, and physically consummated. Renowned counselor, Selwyn Hughes said that mush on the issue. Same is his fellow acclaimed public speaker, Max Lucado who once declared that, “God created marriage. No government subcommittee envisioned it. No social organization developed it. Marriage was conceived and born in the mind of God.”
Thus it beats me hollow when inspite of all these authorities, the world appears to be dancing to the evil drums being beaten from the pit of hell. The saved of the world must rise in prayers, public events and more against this peculiar sin. God help today’s world.
