GUNMEN suspected to be Fulani
herdsmen, yesterday attacked
and killed about eight persons
in some villages in Donga Local
Government of Taraba State.
The attackers, who came in the
early hours of yesterday, invaded
the villages where scores have
been declared missing. They
also destroyed property worth
millions of naira in the affected
A resident of Donga, who
sought anonymity, told Nigerian
Pilot that the attackers, before
killing their victims, burnt
Ayiase Village in Takum Local
Government Area and proceeded
to Tse-Gbaun and Gaza villages
in Donga council.
Another eyewitness alleged
that the gunmen killed one
Msugh Gaza and three of his
sons in Gaza Village, adding that
other four victims were killed in
Tse-Gbaun and Ayiase villages.
He said: “The attack happened
in the early hours of today
(yesterday) and the area is not
safe as I talk to you, as such
we cannot search for the other
missing relations. But we have so
far recovered eight dead bodies.”
When reached for
confirmation, the State Police
Command spokesman, Mr.
Joseph Kwaji, said efforts to
reach the Divisional Police
Officer, DPO of Donga for details
of the attack, had failed as his
number was switched off.
However, an aide of the Acting
Governor said that his boss had
directed that military personnel
be deployed in the area to
maintain peace.

had been threats of attacks in
the area by the Fulani herdsmen
which forced the residents to

The attack in the council is seen
as a way of forcing the residents
to leave so that they would not
participate in the polls.
