A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and an aspirant for the post of Deputy National Chairman of the party in the forthcoming Convention of the party, Hon. George Turnah has blamed the former Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus for the many crises the party has found itself into.

According to Turnah, whose opponent for the Deputy National Chairman is Prince Secondus, the over stay of his opponent as Acting National Chairman of PDP was the genesis of the crisis in the party.

He exonerated the factional chairmen – Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Senator Ahmed Makarif from the crisis of PDP but stated that Secondus was responsible for all the crisis.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja over the weekend, he stated that the party members should be grateful to Hon. Ahmed Gulak, former political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan for forcing Secondus to withdraw as acting national chairman.

Turnah traced the crisis in PDP to the point where the former National Chairman, Dr. Mu’azu resigned and Secondus took over as acting national chairman.

He explained that it was the inability of Secondus to obey the constitution of the party by handing over the post of the National Chairmanship of the party to somebody from the North East that led to the invitation of Ali Sherrif and Makarif in the first.

He argued that such persons, who had served the party at several levels and was responsible for crisis in the party should have no moral right to aspire to lead the party at this point in time.

“The question people should ask is that what brought the issue of Sheriff coming as national chairman in the first place?

“Somebody resigned. The party’s constitution provides how a replacement should come and within some number of days. Somebody somewhere felt he has got power as acting national chairman and decided to remain there. It took Gulak’s action to remove him. Ahmed Gulak saved this party.

“If people had done what is right within the details of our constitution, we wouldn’t have been where we are. The constitution says that somebody from a particular geopolitical zone should replace another person from that zone when the persons is no more a member of NWC but somebody refused and started manipulating the situation and structuring national chairmanship to himself. That is why we got into this crisis situation. People should tell the truth that those who caused these problems are those who want to come back and come back”.

Speaking on his ambition, he said he would want to return the party to its enviable state.
