Police in Lagos have arraigned a 52-year-old security man, Friday Ekanem-Ekam, before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 11-year-old daughter (names withheld), and also for threatening to eliminate the victim’s mother.
The accused, a resident of 8 Grace Anjous Street, Lekki phase 1 area of Lagos, was docked before Magistrate B. B. Balogun, on a three count-charge bordering on defilement and threat to life.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, Inspector Asu Feddy, are contrary to and punishable under Sections 137,135 (2) of the criminal law of Lagos State 2011 and Section 230 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2014.
Inspector Feddy informed the court that the incident took place between December 2013 and November 6, 2015.
He said that the accused unlawfully and indecently dealt with the victim by inserting his fingers into her anus.
The prosecutor explained further that the accused had in 2013, called the victim, who was 9 year old then, under the pretence of sending her on an errand, and when she got to where he was, took her in and raped her and then warned her not to mention it to anyone, adding that because she was afraid she could not tell her mother.
Inspector Feddy also alleged that in 2014, the security man raped her again, and also threatened her not to tell anybody until this year when he raped her again and the mother got to know about it and then went to report to the e police.
The prosecutor said that Ekanem-Ekam called the victim’s mother (names withheld), with his phone number and threatened to kill her if she refused to withdraw the case against him from the police.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
However Magistrate Balogun granted him bail in the sum of N 100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till January 21, 2016, for mention.
