Senator representing Abia Central zone, Senator Theodore Orji has called on the people of the state to support Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and put partisanship aside following Wednesday’s Supreme Court ruling affirming the election of the governor.
In a statement personally signed by Orji and distributed to journalists in Abuja yesterday, the Senator, who is the immediate past governor of Abia State, said he was an ardent believer in the judiciary as the last resort of the common man and that it was time everyone respected each other’s rights as enshrined in the constitution.
According to the statement titled:”The Supreme Court Verdict of February 3rd, 2016 On Abia Governorship Election”, Orji said the judgement of the Supreme Court had laid to rest, “accusations and counter-accusations, most of them unfounded” about the Abia election of 2015, adding that the attendant tensions got to a breaking point for most of them, who have not experienced it before.
“I was never perturbed because the truth is a fortress that every honest man should rely on. As stated in my previous releases, I am a believer in the judiciary as the hope of all citizens.
“Elections have come and gone, all Abians should join hands and build. We have to take it as an irrevocable fact that there can only be one Governor at a time. Based on the present reality, Dr. Victor Okezie Ikpeazu is the elected governor. All Abians on all sides of the divide, irrespective of party affiliations should support Ikpeazu.
“I urge all to be law abiding and at the same time respect each other’s rights as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, Orji stated.
