OTUNBA Dino Melaye, the
Kogi West Senatorial District,
senator-elect in the just
concluded general election
has described the recent move
by the district’s incumbent,
Senator Smart Adeyemi to
challenge the result of the
said election at the election
tribunal as ‘normal’, saying
that it may turn out to be an
exercise in futility.
In a statement made
available to Nigerian Pilot
in Lokoja and signed by his
media aide, Gideon Ayodele,
Hon. Melaye said the outgoing
Senator Adeyemi will witness
another defeat at the tribunal
since every polling units his
party, the People Democratic
Party, PDP had their agents
and have attested to the fact
that the election was free, fair
and credible by all available
documents at hand.
The former House of
Representative member
insisted that his victory was
an evidence of the longdesired
yearnings for change
by the people of Kogi West
against previous selection
process under the PDP led
He argued that Senator
Smart Adeyemi never took
his campaign to Koton-Karfe
axis of the district in the state
because he has in his usual
manner made countless empty
promises for the community
without fulfilling any of such
till date, stressing that the
cold reception from the axis over his candidature in the
said election was therefore
“Smart Adeyemi believes
in the old order of money
politics, which has failed due
to the level of awareness of
our people. You cannot work
with First Bank and be on the
payroll of UBA. Senator Smart
has invested heavily in Kwara
State and it is time for him to
go back to Kwara to seek for
their votes”, the statement
The senator-elect who
advised Senator Adeyemi
to tow the path of his
boss (President Jonathan)
show of sportsmanship by
conceding defeat in good
faith and encouraged all
the party faithful, his fans
and supporters and all
the people of Kogi West
senatorial district to remain
law abiding, saying that
their mandate is intact and
the era of impunity is over.
