SERENA WILLIAMS is to miss Wimbledon and the remainder of this year’s tennis season after announcing she is pregnant. Williams, 35, took to Instagram to confirm she is expecting her first child with husband Alexis Ohanian and is 20 weeks along. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles – the most in the professional era – and was world number two when she announced her news. The news throws the current situation on the women’s tour into a new perspective, as despite reaching her mid-thirties, Williams remained arguably the most feared competitor on the circuit. She won the most recent major, beating her sister Venus in the final of the Australian Open, to surpass Steffi Graf’s record of 22 professional major titles. Up to September 2016, Williams spent 186 consecutive weeks as world No 1 – matching Graf’s record – before being overtaken by current holder Angelique Kerber.
