………begins distribution of PVCs to voters
Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has stepped up efforts to ensure a smooth polls ahead of next Saturday’s Edo governorship election as it began distribution of permanent voters cards ,PVC, across the state yesterday.

The commission has encouraged residents to come out en mass to collect the PVC in order to partake in the election slated for September, 10.
It called on the residents to go to the polling boots where they registered to vote, to collect the PVCs
It would be recalled that as part of preparation for the polls, the electoral umpire had previously accredited forty-four (44) observer groups to participate in the forth coming election.
The body has also trained security personnel on how to conduct themselves in preparation for the election.
Staffs of the commission were also not left out in the capacity building program, especially on how to handle smart card readers.
In another development, Police high command says it has concluded plans to deploy helicopters and 200 vehicles to monitor the election.
According to the acting Inspector- General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the helicopters will provide aerial surveillance during the election, while the vehicles will provide logistics for Police Mobile Force personnel, as well as marine police.
