A fresh crisis is brewing in the All Progressives Congress, APC camp as Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has submitted the name of his in-law, Prof. Anthony Anwuka and two others to President Muhammadu Buhari for the office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.
Nigerian Pilot learnt that Governor Okorocha was saddled with the responsibility as the leader of the South-East zone of the APC, following the party’s zoning of the office to the region.
The other names on Okorocha’s list are Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Senator Chris Ngige.
According to sources in the APC, the governor is insisting on having Prof. Anwuka as the new SGF and merely included Dr. Onu and Senator Ngige on the list of nominees as it was mandatory that he forwarded three names.
Anwuka’s son, Uzo, recently married Uju, the daughter of Governor Okorocha.
“You should be aware by now that (Governor) Rochas has removed the SSG. He replaced him with his Chief of Staff and his son-in- law (Uche Mwosu) who was Commissioner for Lands in his first term. He has sent (Prof) Anwuka’s name to (President) Buhari for the post of SGF,” one of the sources disclosed.
When he was reminded that Onu was the name on everyone’s lips, the source explained that the governor had been telling those who cared to listen that he has the ears of the President.
His words: “He said Imo owes him N16billion. He claims Buhari listens to him, so there is nothing he asked the President that he won’t do. Imo State is his family heritage. Prof. Anthony Anwuka is his in-law. He was his SSG. Anwuka’s son, Uzo married Uju, Okorocha’s daughter,” the source explained.
Another source who corroborated the APC chief’s claims, said: “If you look at the sharing of key posts, you would see that the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, which he took to the APC, has not been rewarded. Buhari is of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, (Prof. Yemi) Osinbajo, who is the Vice President is of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, (John Odigie-Oyegun, the APC National Chairman, was a chieftain of the former All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP. Bukola Saraki of the New PDP is contesting for the Senate Presidency with Ahmad Lawan of the ANPP. Femi Gbajabiamila is also from the ACN bloc while Dogara belongs to the New PDP. I think Governor Okorocha is right in his decision to be interested in who becomes the SGF.”
