Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from across the South East zone of the country has organized a prayer summit seeking divine grace and mercy for Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu to be appointed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The leader of the group and coordinator, Mass Movement for Buhari 2015, Pastor Michael Ajah who spoke to newsmen on behalf of the group shortly after a one-day prayer summit held at Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state, the home town of Dr Ogbonnaya Onu tasked the President to appoint someone who is competent, loyal and someone who has the interest of the country at heart to emerge as SGF noting that Onu fits the bill.
The prayer summit, which was attended by delegations from Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia and Ebonyi states asked for the intervention of God to direct President Buhari in piloting the affairs of the country.
The group, which recommended Dr Ogbonnaya Onu for appointment as the SGF said he merited the position considering his contributions to the merger of the political parties that formed APC as well as the victory of the President.
They stated that Onu was one of the Igbo leaders who had contributed to the unity and development of the country stressing that Onu deserved to be appointed as SGF.
They decried a situation where Ndigbo are not recognized in the sharing of vital positions in the leadership structure of the present administration and urged President Buhari to carry the zone along in his appointments.
“In spite of the huge contribution of Ndigbo towards the victory of President Buhari as the president of the country, I see no reason why they should not be considered in the appointments of the President.
“We have confidence in Onu because he is a symbol of unity among the people of South East zone. He is honest, forthright, selfless and does not play sectional politics,” the group said.
They group also applauded the emergence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as the deputy Senate President stressing that the victory was not only made possible by the APC, rather it was purely an act of God combined with present circumstances and goodwill of Nigerians.
