Stoke City have completed the signing of Inter’s Xherdan Shaqiri for a club-record £12 million.
The Switzerland international has penned a five-year deal with the Potters to become their ninth summer signing and will link up with his new teammates ahead of Saturday’s visit to Tottenham.
A deal to sign Shaqiri was thought to have broken down in July but manager Mark Hughes revealed talks had reignited on Sunday when he was in attendance at the Britannia Stadium during defeat to Liverpool.
Hughes stated he is now excited to see him integrate into the Premier League.
He told the club’s official website: “He’s a dynamic and explosive player who will bring something different to the group and at the age of 23 he still has a great deal of potential.
“In the chats I’ve had with him it’s obvious that he’s excited about playing in the Premier League and showing what he’s capable of.”
The 23-year-old won the Bundesliga twice and the Champions League once with Bayern Munich before joining Inter Milan in January, and will now take up the No. 22 shirt for his new club this season.
