Following clubs lukewarm attitude in the release of invited players to the national U-23 camp in preparation for the CAF U-23 Championship in Dakar, Senegal, Coach Samson Siasia has called on the Nigeria Football Federation to urgently interfere and compel the clubs to release their players.
Siasia told Nigerian Pilot Sports yesterday that he was not impressed with the turnout of players in camp, insisting that the players’ continuous absence is jeopardizing preparation for the competition slated for November.
‘’If we do not prepare well for the competition, how do you expect us to win? The clubs are holding us to ransom and we cannot do anything positive if the trend continues as only 10 players are currently in camp out of the 30 invited.’’
On the foreign players, Siasia said the technical crew will not be putting their hope them because of the difficulties in getting the released since the competition is not recognized by FIFA.
‘’However, we have met with the clubs where our invited players are plying their trade and we have given them our programmes as well as the time for the competition, but we are not going to relay on the foreign players and this why we are crying that the local clubs here release players to enable prepare and map out strategies for the competition next mouth.’’
Siasia said now that NFF are done with the Super Eagles international friendly matches in Belgiyum, he expects that something drastic would be done to addressing the issue.
The former Super Eagles gaffer suggested to the clubs to release the players as he is ready to let the clubs have the players for use during weekend matches.
