Sokoto State government says it will partner with the Catholic Church to improve education, healthcare delivery, religious harmony and peace for the benefit of the citizenry.
Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said this yesterday when he received a delegation of the Sokoto Diocess of the Catholic Church led by Bishop Matthew Kukah, who paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Sokoto.
The governor said the role of the church in the provision of social services in the state was commendable, saying his administration would render any assistance required to expand the services of the hospitals and schools currently run by the Sokoto Diocess.
While urging the bishop to look into areas of youth empowerment and skills acquisition, Tambuwal said the state government welcomes suggestions and ideas from private individuals and corporate organisations that would ensure the unity and progress of the state.
Earlier in his remarks, Bishop Kukah said the church was ready to partner with the government in all areas of interest.
He commended the citizens of the state, especially the Sultanate Council for promoting unity, justice and religious harmony.
