Women for Peace in Nigeria, WOPIN, has passionately appealed to the APC government led by President Muhammadu Buhari and government at all levels to channel the country’s resources towards building valid infrastructure, saying doing so would provide enabling environment for people to discover their talents and potentials that would drive home lasting peace in Nigeria, Africa and the world over.

WOPIN also observed strongly that no matter the increase in salary and wages of a nation, absence of dependable sustainable development and infrastructure makes matters more difficult and cumbersome especially without good roads, electricity, education, hospital and housing.

The National President of WOPIN and Women for Peace International Dr. Maryam C. Abdullahi made observations in a statement to mark the World International Peace Day.

Maryam said the first family welfare is key in any initiation toward any peace building effort, the world over, advocating that providing ruler roads and electrification are catalyst to achieve Nigeria’s peace.

“If people are living together with the essentialities of life without over dependent on one another, Peace will be there”, she said.

Dr. Maryam noted that the theme for 2017, World International Peace Day which is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”, was accurate and timely, adding that rather than indolent cash and fraud, wealth creation and distribution should be encouraged by Nigeria government.

While she appealed to coordinators of WOPIN in all States of the federation to stand up and canvass for enabling environment through the media and family to family advocacy, the President enjoined Nigerians to place national interest above greed, personal and selfishness, and work towards rural infrastructure to drive toward enhancing Peace.

“Nigeria, by all standards, is richly endowed with resources to provide equitable distribution to all nooks and crannies in the country; if we unite and come together, and insists in having them, in line with the theme it will be ok.

“Lets embarked on teaching the little children Peace building, which includes tolerance, forgiveness, and promoting better understanding in other to boost Interfaith & harmony among children of different faith -based organization in Nigeria.

“There is the need to “Catch- them–Young” through teaching them the message of peace and harmony, so that when they grow, they will not depart from it, learn how to tolerate and accommodate everyone irrespective of their religious and ethnic differences, and that is why they are committed in teaching the little children Peace, tolerance and forgiveness at the early stage”, she stated.


According to her, this year’s world International Day of Peace will focus on engaging and mobilizing people throughout the world to show peace and support for refugees and migrants.

“This message will be share with communities hosting refugees and migrants as well as people concerned about refugees and migrants, may bring physical and economic security to their lives”, she said.

She called on every Nigerians to remember that “We are all from one God and because both Muslims and Christians should be guided their Holy books and scriptures that guide them, and should rely on the Scripture”.
