Former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Honourable Babangida Nguroje, has endorsed the candidature of Hon. Yakubu Dogara for Speaker.
Nguroje, who is the coordinator of the ‘North-East Concerned Citizens’, made the endorsement in a joint letter with the group’s deputy coordinator Hon. Salisu Sabo.
In the letter addressed to the National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Nguroje said since the North West and the South West had produced the President and Vice President respectively, the two zones should also be out of the equation for the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He said the North East, which gave the APC the second highest number of votes in the 2015 elections, deserves the position of the Speaker.
“Hon. Yakubu Dogara possesses the requisite confidence, altruism, and administrative skills to lead the next assembly.
“He is one of those who stood as buttresses to the leadership of former Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, “ Nguroje said.
He said the South West had been adequately compensated with the position of the Vice President and should allow other zones who contributed to the success of the APC to produce the Speaker.
He also drew the attention of the APC to the “eminent danger” if the party fails to care for the North East zone.
