Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Lottery Trust Fund, NLTF, Engr. Habu Gumel has cried out that the 2,500 volleyballs distributed to all the 36 states and FCT have been placed under lock and key by the various sports councils.
Gumel said the action by the state sports councils is hindering effort by the Fund at sports development in primary schools across the country.
‘’It is the responsibility of the Fund to intervene in all sectors, especially education and sports. We contributed sports facilities to the school through the state sports council last year and till now, the facilities have not been distributed to the school. How then can we develop sports at the grass root?’’
According to Gumel, who is also the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, NVF, another set of 2, 500 balls are available for distribution, but the organisation is in a dilemma as to how they would be distributed since the councils have either sold or are still hoarding them.
The IOC executive member said the Fund will meet with the National Sports commission, NSC to find ways on how the balls would be distributed so that they can get to the desired destination which is the primary schools.
‘’Our aim is to develop sports at the grass root, but the way things are going, it looks like people want to frustrate our effort which is supply sports facilities to primary schools.
NLTF was established in 2005, but commenced operation in 2007.
