Enugu State police Command has indicated its readiness to partner with the state chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, in developing and promoting sports in the state.
To this end, it promised to give the Association all the necessary support to fish out hidden talents in various parts of the State, especially at the grass roots level.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Adamu Muhammed, made this known at the weekend when he received in audience the executive Committee (Exco) members of the state SWAN, who paid him a courtesy visit his office.
SWAN delegation, was led by its chairman, Comrade Nobert Okolie.
Muhammed stated that the command takes fitness and issues relating to general sports very seriously, saying, “that is the reason why many of our men and women are doing wonderfully well in various sports.”
The Command has produced the likes of James Nicholas, elevated to Rangers Inter. FC team of Enugu, national Athlete, 400 metres hurdles Chiebonam Mbah, Taekwondo play maker, Pascalin Anasado, among other sports men and women.
Commissioner Muhammed, noted that the command under his watch was able to record many feats in the sports cycle due to the fact that it has a proactive and vibrant Sports officer, Ebere Amarizu who is also the PPRO, as well as manger of its football club, Crime Busters FC.
SWAN chairman, Comrade Okolie, in his brief remarks, hailed the commissioner for creating the enabling environment for the development of general sports in the command.
He, however, urged the police chief in the state to keep the flag flying, “as sports in the contemporary world, including Nigeria, is now a lucrative business.”
