Stakeholders applaud Nasarawa guber survey, endorse PDP candidate

Opinion leaders in Nasarawa State political circle have endorsed the result of the recent survey conducted to examine the most popular and acceptable governorship candidate among those seeking to become the next governor of the State in the 2019 General Elections, saying that it reflects the will and wishes of people of the state.

The opinion leaders under the aegis of Concerned Nasarawa Elders Forum (CNEF) in a statement signed by the chairman, Dr. Ahamba Clement, and secretary, Engr. Muhammed Idris, stated that “the outcome of the result of the survey that gave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Hon. David Ombugadu (Davematic) a lead over other candidates in the forthcoming state election, reflects the genuine feelings and thoughts of the people of the state.”

Other candidates include Hon. Labaran Maku of APGA, Alhaji A.A. Sule (APC), Group Captain Dr Z.R. Zakka (ADC), Hon. Mathhew Ombugaku (RNP) and Hon. Danju Mantani Kreni of YPP.

According to the Concerned Elders, “we stand by the public opinion research that was carried out by a Coalition of Research Organisations, a coalition of international and indigenous research groups functioning in Nigeria, including Nasarawa State.

“We can attest to the authenticity of the survey. The result of the survey sufficiently explains the desire of the ordinary citizens of Nasarawa State irrespective of religion and ethnic background to have a balance of power. Beside the issue of marginalisation whereby governors from one religion have been in control of political power since the creation of the state, the lives of our citizens have not been meaningfully impacted through visionary governance.

“There is failure of governance in the state is a testament to this citizen reaction to the present ruling party in the state and vowing to support the candidate of the leading opposition, PDP, Davematic who holds a better promise of providing better healthcare, education, electricity, rural development, improved agricultural development, job creation and youth and women empowerment”, the elders stated.

The document of the survey indicates that it was designed to “forge unity for self-determination towards the realization and control of ethnic people’s collective destiny in all parts of Nigeria” as well as “To determine the political direction for the 2019 general elections for the ethnic nationalities in Nasarawa State”.

COREORG partnered with six other independently conducted surveys, including the Unity Forum of Ethnic Nationalities in Nasarawa State, Independent University Professors, Nasarawa Concerned Natives, Nasarawa Campus to Campus group, and others in carrying out the survey.

The report titled “Result of Nasarawa State 2019 Gubernatorial Election Research Survey” was the outcome of the survey conducted in the 13 local governments and the three Senatorial Districts of the state which revealed that the leading opposition, PDP, will win the state’s gubernatorial election next month.

In a poll conducted in the state’s 13 local governments, Hon. Ombugadu of the PDP is predicted to win 11 local governments, Maku of APGA 1LG, Sule of APC 1LG, Zakka of ADC is unlikely to win any local government, same as Ombugaku of RNP and Kreni of YPP across religious and ethnic backgrounds.

The second round of the survey conducted at the three Senatorial Districts of the state predicted that Davematic will have advantage over the other five candidates.

At Nasarawa North Senatorial District, the survey result gave Davematics a lead among 315 PVC owners interviewed. Out of the 296 that responded, 244 persons vowed to vote PDP, 33 said they will vote APC, APGA 31, ADC 6, SDP nil, LP nil and YYP nil.

At Nasarawa West Senatorial District, the result also put PDP in the lead followed by APC, APGA, ADC, SDP, LP and YYP 299 PVC owners interviewed and 275 that responded with the figures in the following order, 275, 9, 12, 2, nil, nil and1 accordingly. The Nasarawa South Senatorial District also predicted victory for PDP as well.
