A high-powered delegation from Kebbi State on Friday paid unscheduled visit to Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III to commensurate with them over the stampede that killed scores and injured many.
Speaking at the Government House Chamber on Friday, the Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu, who was accompanied by the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Illiyasu Bashar, SSG and others.
Earlier, in his speech, Sen. Bagudu said the tragedy that occurred in Saudi Arabia has not only affected Sokoto, but the whole country.
But according to him, only God knows why the tragedy occurred and prayed families affected is that they should take it as an act from God.
While responding, Governor Tambuwal, said, “When we received the shocking news, we were traumatised.
He thanked the delegations for showing concern over the unfortunate incident.
Nigerian Pilot Sunday learnt that two Islamic scholars held prayers for the repose of those that died in the stampede.
Meanwhile, the delegation also paid a courtesy call to the sultanate council to condolence the Sultan.
The President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, SCIAN, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III expressed shock over unfortunate incident, saying that Sokoto State had the highest number of causalities.
Sultan also prayed for the repose of those that die while they where performing the religion obligation.
Alhaji Abubakar concluded by saying,” we thank the people of Kebbi for their concern and as well the good relationship that exists between Sokoto and Kebbi State.
It would be recalled that Sokoto lost several pilgrims in the stampede and many are still missing.
However, according to the Media Assistant of the Sokoto State Pilgrim Welfare Agency, Umar Farouk, only nine people died.
