Special Task Force, STF, deployed to restore law and order in Plateau State has paraded an armed robbery suspect arrested with an automatic gun and ammunitions.
The STF said it arrested the suspect at Ajikamai-Kuka road in Shendam local government area of the state while on a patrol of the area.
Parading the suspect and formally handing him over to the representative of the STF Commander at the headquarters of its Forward Operational Base, FOB, Shendam, the FOB, Commander, Lt. Col. Friday Onu, said the spot where the suspect was apprehended had been used as operation base for the criminals who had been committing series of armed robbery there.
He said the STF patrol sighted three suspects but upon arrival at the scene, two of them managed to escape arrest. “This one was however arrested with an FN riffle and five rounds of ammunition.”
According to Lt. Col. Onu, the suspect was arrested on July 1, 2015, explain that had “given the STF useful information and made confessional statements, including telling us that he knew the other two escapees, their villages and houses.”
Representative of the STF Commander, Col. Adam Hassan said the task force would continue to do its best in ensuring that lives and properties of the people were secured.
The suspect, who spoke to our correspondent, gave his name as Nanpou Ndem and hailed from Zanko village in Langtang South local government area of the state.
He said: “I am an Okada rider, I only carried the escapees.
The gun belongs to them; they hid it inside the bush and ran away.”
Meanwhile, the suspect had been transferred from Shendam to the STF headquarters in Jos for further investigation and prosecution by the Police.
