Special Task Force, STF, in Plateau State has recovered 100 stolen cattle in collaboration with community leaders in Barkin Ladi and Jos South Local Government Areas.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that 47 cows and a sheep were recovered at Tafwan village of Foron District, which shares borders with Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas while another 53 were recovered in Kamang village in Jos South Council.
The Sector 7 Commander, Col. Charles Ekulide, who handed over the cattle to their owners, said 59 cows and 39 sheep were rustled from Ndang farm in Barkin Ladi on July 29 this year while nine returned on their own.
He said efforts were on to recover the remaining three cows and 38 sheep.
Col. Ekulide said STF officers recovered the cows with the help of the Fulani community which found the animals abandoned by their rustlers.
Also, Sub-Lt. Raphael Ejabena of Sector 5 in Jos South said the STF had received information from Kamang village on Saturday that rustlers were seen moving with cattle around the area.
Ejabena said STF personnel engaged the rustlers in a shootout which led to the recovery of the animals.
He said the cows belonged to a Fulani herdsman, Akawu Musa, who thanked the community and the STF for recovering them.
The secretary of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, in Barkin Ladi, Mohammed Adam and the village head of Kamang, Maianguwa Dan Pam Dusu, urged other communities to continue to assist the STF to curb the activities of cattle rustlers.
