Northern Unity Forum, NUF, an umbrella body for unity and development of the north, has called on Senator Kabiru Marafa of the All Progressives Congress, APC, representing Zamfara Central, to sheath his sword and support the purposeful leaderships of President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki.
NUF in a statement signed by its chairman, Sulieman Yaro Esq, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, noted that for long time now, the north that late premier of the region, Sir Ahmadu Bello, worked tirelessly to build had become disunited and fragile through schemes and machinations of men in power for the region to lose its determinant power in the Nigeria equation.
According to the statement, “Today, you hear of north and core-north, a coinage that was imported to weaken the one monolithic north of the late Sardauna of Sokoto.”
Yaro said that the north had for over six years witnessed monumental displacement of its citizens in large numbers through insurgency and other vices that had further impoverished the region.
He further said that now that efforts were being intensified to resettle and develop the area, some senators under the guise of Senate Unity Forum, SUF, led by the Zamfara Central senator, were out to stall the noble effort of the Senate under Saraki’s leadership.
NUF therefore advised SUF and its leadership to join hands with the Saraki-led Senate to bring even development to the devastated North-East as his (Marafa) sole effort for self aggrandisement would not receive the support of the north.
NUF said that the sponsored protest in the National Assembly against the suspension of the Zamfara Central senator by hired protesters was baseless, and the call for suspension of the Senate president, senseless.
