At least  50 children died and 40 hospitalized in Gidan Dugus village
in Dutse local government area of Jigawa state as a result of  severe fever and unknown illness.

Reports from the state indicated that all the decease were children between the age of 12 month to five years as a result of out break of strange disease in the village.

The village head of the village, Malam Bashari Galadima Gidan Dugus who confirmed the illness and deaths, said the problem started in about two months ago and escalated few weeks ago.

He explained that the children  started with serious fever and developed stomach swelling and pass away.

The Permanent Secretary  ministry of health, Alhaji Ali Garba Dandidi  confirmed the outbreak, He explained that  laboratory test was conducted and was confirmed that the cases are malaria and typhoid.

“children below seven years reportedly died, 31 children were hospitalized as contained in a record available to us”.

He  said  state government had already taken measures to control the situation.
