A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber has killed three civilian Joint Task Force, JTF men, also known as local vigilantes, and injured several others at a military checkpoint in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Security sources said that the male suicide bomber rode on a bicycle to Bale Village near Giwa Barracks and detonated the bomb at a checkpoint along the road on the outskirts of the city, about three kilometres to Giwa Barracks, killing at least three people and injured several others.
The sources told newsmen that the suicide bomber managed to target three civilian JTF men at the checkpoint.
Another source said that, “a suicide bomber came on a bicycle at about 06:07pm before our men could realise who he was he blew up himself and killed three others, so we have taken the injured ones to the hospital.”
Bale Village is two kilometres from Maiduguri and a few kilometres after Giwa Barracks.
