Proprietor of Danhaire Rice Mills in Musawa, Katsina State, Alhaji Hassan Danhaire, on Monday urged the federal and state governments to support efforts of medium-scale rice mills to acquire modern equipment.

Danhaire made the appeal in an interview with our correspondent  in Musawa, Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

He said that his mill, which processed about 100 bags of raw rice daily and provided employment to over 35 persons, needed modern rice parboilers, trashing machines, a power generating set and other modern equipment.

Based on report, He said that if he was able to acquire the modern equipment, the production capacity of the rice mill would improve, while he would also be able to employ more persons.

Danhaire also said that his mill obtained paddy from local farmers and nearby markets, while the patronage of the milled rice had been on the increase.

He said that his mill had registered with relevant government agencies and urged other rice mills across the country to also register so as to enable them to have access to loans from government and financial institutions.

He commended the Federal Government for its Anchor Borrowers Programme and urged it to sustain the programme, which was beneficial to farmers.

He also lauded the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to the development of the agricultural sector and urged all the stakeholders, particularly farmers, to support the initiatives of the administration.

Danhaire, also urged all Nigerians to embrace farming as a source of livelihood, adding that agriculture was a veritable way of getting Nigeria out of recession.

Danhaire advised Nigerians to patronise made-in-Nigeria foods, saying that increased consumption of local cuisines would facilitate the country’s efforts to increase its internally generated revenue and generate employment.
