Benue State governor,
Gabriel Torwua Suswam
has dismissed the allegation
by the All Progressives
Congress, APC, that
the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP is planning
to rig the forth coming
Governorship/State House
of Assembly election in
Benue, describing the
allegation as “most bizarre,
unfounded and without
any element of truth
whatsoever as the PDP has
no such plans.”
The APC through
the Ortom/Abounu
Governorship Campaign
Organisation had on
April 2, 2015, claimed
that it received reliable
information that the
Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP, has concluded plans
to massively rig the April
11 governorship and state
assembly polls in Benue
According to a press
statement signed by Tahav
Agerzua, the Director of
Media for the campaign
organisation, impeccable
sources from Government
House, Makurdi had
disclosed that Governor
Suswam, held a meeting
with a militia group called
the Civilian Joint Task
Force, where he gave them
marching orders on how to
rig the elections.
“According to the
sources Governor Suswam
vowed to do everything
within his power to avert
another electoral defeat
hence his resort to the
services of the militia,
which he had recruited,
trained, and equipped with
sophisticated weapons
under the pretext of raising
resistance to incessant
herdsmen attacks in the
state,” Agerzua stated.
The APC media campaign
director also claimed that
the governor has listed
the kidnapping of APC
stalwarts and supporters in
order to prevent them from
mobilising further support
for the party and voting,
destruction of card readers,
snatching of electoral
materials before and after
elections as well as burning
of collation centres as part
of the brief.
But Dr Cletus Akwaya,
the Director of Media of
the TarzoorThe/Ngbede
Campaign Organisation
said the APC ridiculed
itself when it alleged that
Governor Suswam presided
over the imaginary meeting
to map out the rigging
strategy, when in actual fact
the governor was in Abuja
for a crucial meeting of
the PDP Governors Forum
on the said day and only
returned to Makurdi, the
state capital on Friday
The media campaign
director also said the
allegation of plans to kidnap
APC stalwarts is imaginary,
ordinary and cheap as it
is a direct opposite of the
recent political happenings
in the state, where the
provost of the College of
Education, Katsina-Ala,
Dr Hans Senwua, a PDP
supporter and sympathiser
was a victim of the kidnap
