Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has reiterated his resolve to retrieve all funds allegedly stolen by his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam.
“We will prosecute Suswam and others that were indicted by the Justice Kpojime Commission, we will send them to EFCC and ICPC. Yesterday, we looked at the transition report, Suswam collected N450 million as arrears of overhead. We are asking him to return that money, we can use it to pay salary and we will get it back.”
Ortom, who spoke with journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, yesterday, said the people are hungry because he cannot pay them salary.
“I prefer to concentrate on why I was elected governor and part of it is recovering the money stolen by Suswam. Let him come and tell the people what he did with their N107 million.’’
It would be recalled that the former governor and about 50 others were indicted by a judicial commission of inquiry headed by Justice Elizabeth Kpojime which requested that they return N107billion that they allegedly stole.
