After impeaching its President, Gbenga Ashiru, board members of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, NTF will officially submit the outcome of their Annual General Meeting last weekend to the National Sports Commission, NSC.
One of the board members, Chika Chukwumerije who disclosed this exclusively to Nigerian Pilot Sports via telephone yesterday insisted the documents which proved that the various allegations leveled against Ashiru was authentic.
According to Chukwumerije representing athletes in the Taekwondo board: “There is no need talking too much about the outcome of what led to the impeachment of Mr. Gbenga Ashiru. We have enough evidence in all the issues we raised. If you like call him, you will find out that he will just be talking without proof.
“After communicating with the Sports Commission, the new President will equally issue an official press release based on what our decisions are.”
No fewer than six board members endorsed Ashiru’s removal.
However, Ashiru who on his part told our correspondent that he would continue to play his role as the President said “Impeachment is a weighty allegation in law. When a person is to be impeached, he has to be officially notified. You can’t just say I’m impeached when allegations levelled against me has not been proven by anyone.
“As long as I’m concerned, due process was not followed in the so called impeachment process. How can the board proceed to impeach me when I was not there? They were aware that a tournament was going on and I went to welcome honourable minister of Sports. The next thing I saw and heard on the news was impeachment.
“There is precedence in anything that happens. That’s not how things are done.”
