Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo has been named Veikkausliiga player of the month for May.
According to the official website of the veikkausliiga, Taiwo beat competition from his HJK Helsinki teammates; Nnamdi Oduamadi, Alfredo Avilez, Atomu Aanaka and Gbolahan Salami to land the award.
The HJK Helsinki defender scored four goals and made two assists in 12 league games from his defensive position to emerge winner of the award.
HJK Helsinki, coach Mika Lehkosuo, won the coach of the month award. The Finnish coach led his side to four wins and a draw in their last five games.
The former AC Milan defender who is the highest scoring defender in the Veikkausliiga, was also named in the team of the week along with three other African players.
HJK Helsinki are currently leading the log with 27 points from 12 games.
Both Taiwo and Lehkosuo will be presented with their awards on Sunday 12 June when HJK hosts RoPS in another league game.
