Vice chairman of Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, Branch 11, also the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Plateau State, Comrade Dayyabu Yusuf Garga has urged the federal government to rehabilitate all federal roads in the country so as to address occurrences of accidents.
The call was made by Comrade Garga at the 2016 NUPENG/ PTD Kaduna zonal council meeting held in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, over the weekend.
Comrade Garga said the call was imperative considering the deplorable state of some of the federal roads, especially in some parts of southern states where PTD members always ply to convey petroleum product to other parts of the country.
He said when these roads were rehabilitated, it would reduce high cost for the maintenance of vehicles among PTD/NUPENG members, and also reduce the rampant occurrence of road accidents which usually lead to loss of lives.
He said the PTD/NUPENG was ready to ensure every tanker driver got his driving licence as well as the newly introduced Speed Limit Device by April in order to comply with the Federal Road Safety Corps directive in its effort to fight against reckless driving among motorists in the country.
He also called on Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara State governments to assist PTD and NUPENG in providing packing space for tanker drivers in their respective states for safety.
He said the aim of the meeting was to interact with members on problems bothering them as well as to identify ways to solve their problems in order to move the union forward, while appealing to TDP/NUPENG members to always be law abiding in the discharge of their duties.
