A nursery and primary school teacher in Ogun State, Edet Umoren, has allegedly killed a granddaughter of his proprietor, Pastor Joseph Olutoye, Precious Adeji, for owing him three months salary.
The incident, it was gathered, occurred at Favour Nursery and Primary School in Esugbon community, Itamerin, near Ijebu Ife in Ijebu east local govt area of Ogun State.
Umoren, who was the treasurer of a church founded by the proprietor where he was alleged to have stolen N250, 000, resumed early to school on the faithful day, it was gathered, left the school around 10am without leaving a sign of such obnoxious act.
Our Correspondent gathered that Uncle Edet, as he is fondly called, laid siege at a nearby school where he seized Precious who was in company of a friend named Patricia and hacked her to death.
The deceased and her friend were said to have left the school compound to buy biscuit during the break before they were attacked.
Edet reportedly severed the neck of Precious with cutlass and left a note at the scene claiming the proprietor was owing him three months salary.
Patricia was said to have escaped from the scene and ran to the school to inform the authorities of the forceful seizure of Precious by one of the teachers.
Edet reportedly gruesomely murdered the girl who turned 10 on 2nd of March 2016 by almost cutting off her head and right hand.
While speaking with newsmen, the proprietor, who was in tears, said he had pleaded with Edet to allow him collect his salary from his place of work in order to pay him.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident.
He said the matter was reported by the proprietor of the school at about 2.00pm on the fateful day and that the suspect has been arrested by the police.
He said,” On Thursday, at about 2.00pm, one Pastor Joseph Olutoye of Ijebu-Imushin, owner of Favour Nursery and Primary School, Esugbon, reported one Edet Umoren, a teacher in the school, for killing Precious Adedeji, aged 10, with a knife in a nearby bush around 11.00a.m.
“The suspect left a written note at the scene of the crime that the proprietor, who happens to be the grandfather of the victim, is owing him three months salary and that was why he killed the girl.
“He fled the area, but around 5.00am on Friday, a team of Police and Vigilantee men arrested the suspect at Ijebu-Imushin.”
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command.
He further said that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue for autopsy and investigation.
