Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Gombe State Command says three persons are currently in their detention over a multimillion Naira employment scam.
Shem Obafaye, the NSCDC Commandant in the state said the trio were arrested as a result of tip off by some of their victims whom they had swindled of over N1.3million.
He said their victims, numbering 32 claimed to have given them the money since March this year with the promise of securing jobs in Gombe State civil service in return.
He said the applicants after a long silence, decided to confront their middlemen only to realise that they had been duped.
Obafaye identified the alleged swindlers as Peter Mono of Gombe office of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, and Yila Kelmi Lazarus of NIPOST, who both led to the arrest of their boss, Ismaila Sidi, a staff at Akko Local government Secretariat.
He said all three have confessed to their crimes and the case was still being investigated, just as charges against them were being prepared for onward prosecution.
He said Mono and Lazarus initially confessed it was their first involvements, but Ismaila who confessed to have been in the business for the past seven years said the three of them have been working together for a long time.
“Samaila further confessed to taking a lion share of the amount and giving the other two N450, 000.00 to share. But there is still N150, 000.00 unaccounted for in his confession.
They charging amounts ranging from N50, 000.00 upwards depending on your qualification and bargaining power,” said Obafaye.
The NSCDC Boss said the scammer’s claim was further corroborated by 29 other persons outside the 32 that led to their arrest and 27 of them have identified Mono and Lazarus as dupes.
He then advised members of the public to be mindful of whom they trust with their hard-earned resources as swindlers were on the prowl for the next victim.
