A leader of the Tivs of Benue State, Chief Iorapuu Amile has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to consider Senator George Akume’s aspiration to lead the eighth National Assembly as his reward for hard-work and incorruptibility.
Amile also appealed to the APC leadership to maintain its earlier proposal to zone the Senate president seat to the North-Central and deputy to the North-East.
Chief Amile spoke on behalf of other elders in Tivland after a meeting in Gboko as part of strategies to drum support for Akume.
He said Akume had the best leadership disposition to compliment the president-elect, Mohammadu Buhari, in curbing the menace of corruption and insecurity bedevilling the nation.
“We appeal to the leadership of the APC and distinguish senators-elect to look at Sen. George Akume on his personal incorruptible merits and his immense contributions to the party as well as goodwill to the people.
“We also call on Nigerians to stand up for him (Akume) in the same manner they stood up for General Buhari to defeat an incumbent against all odds,” Amile appealed.
Chief Amile applauded Buhari for insisting that he would only support someone of no financial fraud image as well as Boko Haram link which is a plus for Akume since he is not found wanting in such regards.
He said, “We commend General Buhari for insisting on merit as a yardstick for him to support whoever that will emerge as leader(s) which we see as a plus for Akume.”
