Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna will storm Ilorin the Kwara State capital for two to three weeks pre-season camping ahead of the kick off the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) slated for 31st of this month.
Media Officer of the club, Mr. George Daniya disclosed this to sportswriters in a press release after the meeting of the club’s management committee.
Daniya said that the chairman of the management committee, Hon. AdamuAliyu Mohammed has approved the pre-season camping programme and the team is expected to arrive Ilorin on Monday to commence the exercise.
The team will depart Minna with a 35-man squad for the closed camping where it will engage itself in series of friendly matches with renowned professional football clubs.
‘We have assembled a formidable team, we want both the players we retained after the Super 4 and the ones that we have pencilled down from top premier league teams to blend together, so the need for the preseason has become imperative.
‘‘At the end of the preseason we will release the final list of the players that will prosecute the 2015/2016 NPFL action in the colours of Tornadoes as given to us by the coaches’’, Mohammed said.
The chairman commended the coaching and technical crew of the club, especially with the professionalism they used in handling the requirement exercise, stressing that quality was needed in order that the club will effectively excel when the league commences.
‘‘Some years back we were a force to reckon with while playing at the elite league, now that we have returned to the league we want to rekindle the performance we did, we are not in the league to add up to numbers but to compete favourably with other top clubs. Tornadoes FC is a household name in Nigeria football’’, he said.
He commended the state government for the support that they were giving to the club promising not to jeopardize it, and equally thanked other stakeholders for their advice and suggestions aimed at advancing the club.
