Director of Abuja-based National Park Services, Mr Usman Adamu has called for collaboration among airline operators and tourism stakeholders for enhanced growth of local tourism industry.
Adamu told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in a telephone interview that aviation and tourism industries were related because they complemented each other.
“One cannot separate aviation from tourism because tourists can only access a country’s tourist centres through the airlines and other forms of transportation,’’ Adamu said.
He urged airline operators to have good travelling packages with tourism practitioners to facilitate the influx of tourists into the country.
“The idea is for foreign and local visitors to have quick and easy access to the country’s tourism endowments to boost the sector.
“If airlines can give discounted fares to tourism practitioners, it will help in bringing more tourists into the country and encourage marketing of tourist centres,’’ he said.
Adamu lauded the Federal Government’s efforts at promoting tourism in the country.
He, however, advised that more attention should be paid to funding, upgrading of tourism sites and the provision of enabling environment.
“The tourism industry will grow rapidly if government can pay more attention to the development of tourist sites in the country, ” he said.
Adamu advised tourism practitioners to improve on their tour packages and products to attract more foreign visitors into the country. NAN
