Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE accompanied by Civilian JTF have killed 5 Boko Haram terrorists and successfully thwarted their attempt to attack Yauri Community at the outskirts of Maiduguri City, Borno State.
Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed in a statement yesterday that the encounter occurred last Monday at about 8.00pm where the troops killed the attackers and recovered 2 AK-47 rifles, 1 General Purpose Machine Gun, GPMG, one 60mm Mortar Tube, 1 Fabrique Nationale, FN, rifle.
The military troops also recovered 2 Dane Guns, 2 AK-47 rifle magazines, 2 FN rifle magazines, 131 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, 31 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunitions, a 60mm Bomb, 10 Bicycles and the sum of N31,275 from the terrorists.
The statement said, “We are glad to inform the public that the general area is calm, while troops have deployed to maintain security in the village and environs.
In another statement, Colonel Sani Usman said troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army involved in anti-cattle rustling and anti-banditry operations in Zamfara State last Monday despite poor weather and rugged terrain, carried out clearance operations on suspected armed bandits hideouts in some forests within Zamfara State.
“The troops carried out raids at Batara and Ajah forests in Birnin Magaji and Gusau Local Government Areas, Zamfara State. Although the armed bandits fled the camps, the troops destroyed the camps, recovered 3 motorcycles and 2 mobile telephone handsets.
“They further raided Rimawa forest in Gusau Local Government Area where they arrested 2 wanted armed bandits, Aliyu Abubakar and Umar Ibrahim. In Bini village forest, Maru Local Government Area, the troops also arrested a notorious and wanted armed bandits collaborator, Umar Dan Bilbili”, Usman said.
