Determined Nigerian military troops fighting to annihilate Boko Haram terrorists in North-East region have reportedly killed one of the terrorists’ leaders and two other members of the sect along Damboa-Njaba-Bale road in Borno State.
The troops also recovered silt of arms and ammunitions from fleeing terrorists.
A statement by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman said troops of 25 Task Force Brigade killed the terrorists based on tip off.
The army spokesman said the troops encountered and killed 3 suspected Boko Haram terrorists that had been terrorizing the communities around Sabon Gari and Damboa.
“Among those killed was the Boko Haram terrorists Ameer (Leader) in Bulayaga. The Ameer was notorious in terrorizing Bale, Wass and Mufurundi villages”, Usman confirmed.
“The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle with its magazine, 43 rounds of 7.62mm Special Ammunition, 1 Grinding Machine and 5 Dane Guns. Other items recovered include 7 motorcycles, 21 bags of grains and 2 Boko Haram terrorists’ flags hoisted.
Col. Usman revealed further that the troops of 7 Division Garrison on patrol at Mainari village in Mafa Local Government Area also had an encounter with Boko Haram terrorists.
“The encounter led to the killing of 9 terrorists and recovery of weapons, which includes 4 AK-47 and 1 pump action gun.
“The patrol teams have continued to dominate the respective areas.”
Federal government yesterday questioned the authenticity of the figures and video recently released by the Islamic State in Iran and Syria, ISIS terrorist group regarding the number of attacks they claimed to have successfully carried out by Boko Haram, whom they claimed allegiance with, as well as the number of people killed in attacks in the last two months.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who gave the government’s position in a statement, encouraged Nigerians not to be scared about the figure, explaining that the imaginary figures were part of the ISIS’ strategy to shore up the morale of its dispersed and defeated fellow-terrorists in Nigeria.
The minister in statement issued in Abuja by his Special Assistant, Mr. Segun Adeyemi, said that intelligence report available to the government has shown that the terror group are planning to release more of such video and scaring figures to obviously implant fear in the minds of the people.
He said, ‘’In the days ahead, there will be more of such Boko Haram propaganda, targeted at weakening the resolve of our brave troops, thus instilling fears into the minds of Nigerians and also seeking to impress their fellow terrorists in ISIS. Nigerians should see the propaganda as a prank’’ he said.
The statement said that the government is aware that the terror group is planning release of old videos of Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria through the terrorists’ preferred channel to give the impression that they have continued to carry out spectacular attacks, stressing that the forthcoming videos are neither recent nor genuine.
‘’The ISIS/Boko Haram propaganda is being deliberately timed to coincide with the December 31st 2015 deadline issued to the military by the President to decimate the terrorists, and is also aimed at distracting the military and striking at its all-time high morale.
‘’But the truth of the matter is that the capability of the military has improved drastically, and there is a higher level of awareness among Nigerians concerning the war against terrorism, which has led them (Nigerians) to increase their support for the troops on the frontline and to also own the war.
The Minister described as a “figment of the terrorists’ imagination” the figures being pushed out by ISIS on behalf of Boko Haram.
He explained that the recent visit of the Minister and his team of officials to Bama and other towns in Borno state, opened his eyes to the level of blow that has been done to the insurgents, which has weakened their powers, resulting in recovery of territories that they hitherto occupy.
‘’We therefore wonder where the terrorists have been carrying out their so-called spectacular attacks, as indicated by ISIS, when indeed the capability of the shameless cowards has been so degraded that all they can do now is to target innocent women and children, using equally innocent children and women as their bomb carriers,’’ he said.
The minister said the decimated Boko Haram terrorists are so hungry, so broke, so sick and so desperate that all they can now do, is to clutch at straws; hence Nigerians should ignore their meaningless propaganda.
