Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has called on the police to investigate the relationship between a wanted criminal, Terwase Agwadza, alias Gana, Governor Samuel Ortom and his aides.
Tsav, who made the call in a statement made available to Nigerian Pilot in Makurdi, yesterday, said there is more to the relationship between Ortom and Gana than what he (the governor) wants Nigerians and the public to believe.
“Ortom’s amnesty programme revolves around Gana and the intention was to afford him the opportunity to recruit more militants for the 2019 general election in Benue State.
“I had severally described Ortom’s amnesty programme as a fluke and his foot soldiers and mercenaries called me names. I insisted in my earlier condemnation of the amnesty programme that the arms surrendered by the bandits be returned to the police to ascertain their sources but no one listened to me.’’
Tsav, who predicated his call on the recent declaration on Channels Television that Ortom’s Special Adviser on Security, Edwin Jando, sold guns and ammunition to him on more than three occasions, said “how can a sane man say Gana is lying by alleging that Jando sold arms to him?”
The retired police boss claimed that Jando left the army prematurely over his alleged involvement in coup- de-tat and could therefore be described as a disloyal officer.
“During his tenure as security adviser to George Akume, many young men in Kwande and Tarka who were opposed to Akume were murdered in cold blood and no one was arrested or prosecuted. This is the man that Akume and Ortom want to impose on Tiv people as the next Tor Tiv,” Tsav said.
He described the amnesty programme as a huge failure since beneficiaries have been arrested and remanded in prison custody, following the murder of the governor’s security adviser, Denen Igbana.
This, he said, has been attested to by the wanted criminal and his second in command, Moji, as all the promises made to train them locally and overseas never took place.
