Trade Union Congress, TUC, yesterday lauded federal government’s decision that all outstanding arrears of salaries and other entitlements owed workers in the country be paid.
President-general of the union, Mr Bobboi Kaigama made this position known in an interview with newsmen in Jalingo.
It would be recalled that the federal government’s directive on the matter was contained in a circular signed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danlandi Kifasi.
The move to clear unpaid entitlements, including salary arrears, promotion arrears, first 28 days allowances, repatriation allowance, burial expenses, death benefits, among others, according to Kaigama, would boost the morale of workers and enhance productivity.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for bringing hope to thousands of public employees owed arrears of salaries and allowances for years.
He informed that “the move to pay workers their outstanding arrears is step in the right direction and is highly commendable by the union.”
While pledging the support of the union to the administration’s war against corruption, the TUC boss also expressed confidence that the ongoing review of salaries and allowances of public office holders and civil servants would take into consideration current realities and would be in the interest of Nigerian workers.
