Wladimir Klitschko asked the first question at the start of what will be a long pre-fight ritual and Tyson Fury gave him the answer in his usual uncensored fashion.
‘You’re a wrinkled old man with a glass chin and I am going to make that glass explode like a bottle hitting a wall.’
Thus what had begun as a mutually respectful first media conference prior to begin setting up Fury’s return here to Dusseldorf for his stadium mega-fight on October 24 suddenly had lift off.
Fury used some bad language: ‘I’m an American style fighter with European fitness and that adds up to you’re f*****.’
There was an unprintable obscenity hung around the first syllable of the multiple champion’s surname.
There were more threats and insults as the giant Manchester traveller pointed at the five belts – WBA, IBF, WBO. IBO, Ring -arrayed on the table in front of Klitschko: ‘I don’t care about those. I don’t care about money. I don’t care about my legacy or going down in history.
‘I just want to smash your old face and I don’t give a f*** what anybody thinks because I don’t give a f*** about being a role model.’
The Germans made much of how victory would take Klitschko to 28 world title fights, one more than the old record held by the immortal Joe Louis but Fury said: ‘Are you greater than Louis, Al, Frazier, Holmes? I think not. You’ve just fought bums well selected for you by your management.

Mayweather faces Berto in September
Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face Andre Berto when the unbeaten American attempts to match Rocky Marciano’s undefeated record of 49-0 on Sept 12 in Las Vegas, according to USA news outlets including The Washington Post.
The opponent will be received underwhelmingly by boxing fans. Berto was the WBC welterweight champion in 2008, and defended the title five times before losing it to Victor Ortiz.
He then won the IBF welterweight crown in 2001 against Jan Zaveck. However, what’s most interesting about this matchup is the possibility that it might actually end up as a free fight on CBS, a terrestrial channel.
Mayweather’s career sits at 48-0, having defeated Manny Pacquiao in May, for which her earned $220 million.
Berto, a Haitian-American from Miami, is 31 years old, and owns a career 33-3 record. He was once suspended from the sport after testing for a banned substance, but it was subsequently ruled that Berto’s positive test was the result of contamination, and he regained his boxing licence.
