Hope by the Nigeria U-17 Women basketball players to dazzle the world at this year’s World championship slated to begin today in Spain might have been dashed following reports that the Spain denied the Nigerians visa.
The Nigeria’s team that emerged second during African version of the competition last year were scheduled to play Canada in one of the opening games today.
As at the time of filing this report Nigerian Pilot Sports gathered that the Nigerian girls are still at their hostel located within Abuja National Stadium with the other officials of the team led by Coach Adeka Daudu.
Another source who confided with our Correspondent disclosed that authorities within the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development failed to begin processing visa early enough due to paucity of funds.
When contacted, one of the officials of Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF Morison Skambo who refused to give full details on the matter only said; “I can’t comment much on it…anything can still happen between now (last night) and tomorrow (today)”
