A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang has said that the next PDP government in the state has no reason to abandon projects that would not be completed by Governor Godswill Akpabio’s administration.
Inyang who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Transformation Initiative for the Empowerment of Ibom People, TIEIP told Nigerian Pilot in Uyo that the governor-elect Mr Udom Emmanuel has assured that all projects, which could not be completed by the present government would be completed.
The TIEIP BoT chairman who attributed the non completion of some laudable projects initiated by the present government to shortfall in revenue accruing to the state maintained that abandoning such projects would constitute a disservice to the people of the state who have demonstrated much faith in the PDP.
He further stated that abandoning them would also have an adverse effect on efforts to diversify the economy of the state and make it less reliant on oil revenue especially in the face of dwindling oil prices.
“These are projects you cannot abandon because they remained key to the social and economic transformation of the state. So is it the Specialist Hosptal, Uyo-Ikot Ekpene dualization project, the Ikot Ekpene Sharetan, the Tropicana that you will abandone?
“These are key projects that no sensible administration should abandon for whatever reason and for Udom Emmanuel, these projects are also key for the continuation of the uncommon transformation in the state,” he maintained.
On insinuations that outgoing Governor Godswill Akpabio would influence the administration of the governor-elect, Inyang described it as rumour being peddled by mischief makers to cause frictions between the governor and the governor- elect.
“It depends on the kind of influence you are talking about. If it is a positive influence then such influence will be accepted but if you look at what Akpabio has done in transforming Akwa Ibom do you think such a person can be a negative influence on the development of the state.
“Akpabio is going to the Senate while Udom will be here to continue from where Akpabio stopped and with the synergy expected from two of them, the state will witness an even greater transformation,” he explained.
He condemned the call by the All Progressives Congress, APC for the cancellation of the last governorship election results in the state, describing them as bad losers.
Inyang maintained that such calls by the APC for cancellation of the state guber result over allegations of rigging was mischievous and an attempt to deceive the outside world to think that the elections in the state were not free and fair.
“Look at President Goodluck Jonathan, he even called the president-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him even before the final results were announced but if you look at all the states that APC has lost it has been their strategy to call for cancellation of result.
“In Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta they are calling for the cancellation of the result because they lost but in Lagos where the gap was even small despite all they did to win the election, the PDP candidate conceded defeat and has allowed peace to reign in Lagos.
“They should also just as our dear President and other PDP candidates did in places they lost allow peace to reign in Akwa Ibom. Look at the millions of people that marched through the streets of Uyo to celebrate the PDP’s victory, can you compare that with a few touts that went about burning tyres around INEC office.
“They should allow the winner of the guber polls, Mr Udom Emmanuel to settle down and plan how to run the next government in Akwa Ibom for the good of our people,” he pleaded.
