Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, has flagged off construction of three abandoned roads, one each, in the three senatorial zones of the state.
They are 23.7km Hiltop/Agbaja/Nwofe state road in Ebonyi north senatorial zone, 15.5 km Ehamufu/Umuhali/NIGERCEM federal road in Ebonyi central, and the 23.5 km Okposi/Amarasiri/Uburu federal road in Ebonyi south senatorial zone.
Whereas an Expatriate construction company, China Zunghaoi, is handling the Ebonyi north and Central zones road projects; Conrok Nigerian Limited is handling that of Ebonyi south.
Umahi, who described the flag off as a dream come true, said his reason for taking up the task was hinged on the fact that “mark of good leadership is when the people are happy.
The governor said his administration came on divine mandate mantra and that every step of his is divine and an instruction by God; just as he assured the readiness of his administration to better the lots of the people of the state.
He noted specifically that his administration was poised to constructing the Hiltop/Agbaja/Nwofe road as a reward to Izzi land for voting for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general election despite distractions; as well as to honor the Speaker of the state House Assembly, Francis Nwifuru for his honesty and sincere in piloting the affairs of the 5th Assembly.
The governor directed all the local government chairmen in the three senatorial zones to supervise the construction of the roads and give him feedback on daily basis.
He disclosed that his administration was already in talks with Ibeto Cement Company to come and develop NIGERCEM saying” NIGERCEM must come back to its glory. Any negotiation that does not include bringing NIGERCEM to its original glory is not a negotiation”.
The governor assured that there must be electricity, schools, water, hospitals so that the quality of life in NIGERCEM will improve.
Umahi further disclosed that he was already meeting with other contractors that would commence from early next year the construction of ring roads from 135 through Effium down to Izzi, Ntezi road through Isu down to Onicha, and Amasiri/Owutu/Ebunwana road.
