Dave Umahi of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has been sworn-in as the 3rd Executive Governor of Ebonyi state.
He was sworn-in alongside his deputy, Dr. Kelechi Eric Igwe by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Aloy Nwankwo.
In his acceptance speech, Umahi who thanked Ebonyi people for giving him the mandate, pledged to stand at the gate of his promise to ensure that all that is good was admitted and that which is evil, is banished forever.
He disclosed that one of the many reasons why the people willingly and enthusiastically entrusted the position to him and his team was their belief that they have the qualities that it takes to secure a peaceful, harmonious and progressive future for the people of the state.
The Governor, who is the immediate past deputy Governor of the state, enumerated inherited liabilities from his predecessor such as uncompleted projects which he said is in the region of hundreds of millions if not in billions of naira, coupled with his pledges that are going to challenge the new administration in the dimensions that cannot be predicted.
He stated that his government would welcome a healthy and progressive opposition, but urged that all citizens must equally recognise that all power is bestowed by Devine Authority and not by human aggression or authoritarian imposition.
Engr. Umahi assured that peace must reign and the new administration would pursue the cause of peace all the way from the earth to the shore of orion; maintaining that the government shall rest squarely on the shoulders of the people.
The immediate past Governor, Chief Martin Elechi thanked the people of the state for supporting him through the end of his administration and further pledged his readiness to cooperate and make his contribution to the growth and development of the state where and when necessary.
While admitting that his successor was not bound by any law to complete his ongoing projects, Elechi however specifically urged Umahi not to toy with projects such as the cargo airport, Independent power plant Akahufu in Ikwo LGA and clearing and installation of Waste polarization machines which is at port Harcourt wharf as according to him, those projects would change the economic landscape of the state.
Meanwhile, Umahi has named the Ebonyi Central Senatorial candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Prof. Ben Odoh as the Secretary to the State Government and Prof. Aja Akpuru Aja as his Chief Press Secretary. The duo, are University lecturers until their appointments.
