As the date draws near for the Edo state governorship polls to elect his successor, Governor Adams Oshiomhole who has been leading the APC campaigns has not left anyone in doubt about his plan to prevent the opposition PDP from gaining victory. He had thrown the first salvo last week when he said self- confessed treasury looters will be rejected at the polls onSeptember 10, by the people of Edo State. He was speaking during a visit to him by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State. He said some of those who looted the nation’s treasury and have confessed to stealing public funds are now offering themselves to govern Edo State. “I know there are a lot of people who don’t quite understand what is going on. Our party inherited a federal treasury that was completely bastardized, emptied, emptied from the vaults to soak away pits, to farm houses, and even in Edo here, the people who are asking for Edo votes are those who have already made statements to EFCC that they collected N500 million, N700 million: that is already N1.2 billion”. He said, “And their leader confessed in his own right that he collected N300 million from money meant to secure Nigerians against terrorism called Boko haram. And it is people who diverted such money, who collected it and they have owned up to it in black and white in their hand writing that are asking Edo people to surrender the state”. According to the governor, “So for us, our campaign message is cut out for us. The choice is between a bunch of people whose philosophy is ‘share the state money’ and those who believe that the state money belongs to the people, and the task is for the governor to manage it in a way that will deliver prosperity to the people.” The Governor amplified his position when he said the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu is desperate to become State Governor because he wants to get immunity from prosecution for his role in the Dasuki arms deal scandal. This time it was at the campaign flag-off by the APC for Edo North at Auchi. He said the EFCC should do its job and make the PDP candidate face the music for collecting N700m of the Dasuki Arms fund, arguing that he has records of how the pas PDP government looted the state resources. “According to Pastor’s statement to EFCC, he took the N700m Dasuki fund to their Leader’s house and they shared it in line with the principle of PDP which is ‘share the money’. Now EFCC asked how to narrate who and who did you share to, he said ‘ oh we gave various local governments’, they are singing how they shared Government’s money for Defence exactly same way as local witches used to sing at midnight when there was no light in villages”. The Governor added, “Do you know why he wants to be a Governor, Mr. Ize-Iyamu wants to be a Governor to get immunity
have all the records, I advise them to be quiet.” In an apparent response Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who wondered if the governor was seeking re- election for a third term vowed to probe the governor if elected into office, declaring that every kobo that accrued to the state must be accounted for. The Redeemed Church pastor also encouraged Governor Oshiomhole to look at the eight years he spent in office between 1999 and 2007 as Chief of Staff and secretary to the state government while he still has power to do so. Speaking at Uromi, in Esan North East Local Government Area of the state, Ize-Iyamu said it was high time the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki, started speaking for himself since he is the one contesting election and not Oshiomhole. “The only person speaking in APC is Adams Oshiomhole. If the candidate he has brought is dumb, he should tell us so that we can arrange a sign language interpreter for him. We can also pray for him so that he will be able to speak. I call on Adams Oshiomhole to probe my time in government and look at everything that I did. Let him do it because by the grace of God, when I am governor, I will probe him. I will probe him; every kobo that has come to Edo State, must be accounted for. That is his fear; that is why he can no longer sleep”. He said, “Adams Oshiomhole believes that the more he attacks, the more he can hide the truth. He should know that it is not by insulting Ize-Iyamu or Chief Anenih. Only recently in a Catholic Church he met Chief Anenih and he apologized to him on the altar to forgive him. Days after he was abusing Chief Anenih”. “He says Pastor Ize-Iyamu is bad; Ize-Iyamu is useless. When he appointed Pastor Ize-Iyamu DG of his campaign, he didn’t know that time. When he made him national vice chairman of his
to protect him from prosecution. Today, we ask EFCC why is Ize- Iyamu having confessed to money collected for Defence from Fidelity Bank, having confessed to taking it for purposes other than defence and directing how he shared it, he must face the music that Dasuki and others are facing. Even their leader wrote in his handwriting that he collected N300 million from NSA”. “Do you want to hand over Edo treasury to a thief? I’m a proud Kukuruku man, not the son of a cook, but we don’t take money for Police, money meant for soldiers, money meant for Defence to secure Christians in Churches, Pastors are collecting it and sharing it to their party members. He goes on, “For me, I am humbled by what God has shown that he is capable of doing, when I see them now appealing to power for level-playing field I wonder. I thought they would decree that there is no vacancy. Things have changed and things will continue to change”. On how the PDP looted the state treasury, Oshiomhole said there are records of how many projects purportedly completed in the books but not actually done. He listed the achievements of his government on roads, schools, hospital, Auchi gully erosion reclamation and electricity projects his government has done in different parts of Edo North. “I’m the Governor today and I

Oshomole surprises me. The other day, he told us all that he has done since being a Governor for the past seven and half years. While a lot of these may be true, is he the one on the Edo ballot for this year’s election? Is he still the one that will be running the state for the next 4 years? Since he started with Labour party, I suppose, should he attribute his successes to APC alone? I should think the person who is on the ballot should talk to Edo people.
