Tussle for the vice chancellor of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, has finally ended with the emergence of Professor Zana Akpagu.
The race for the vice chancellorship pitched various ethnic groups in Cross River against one another.
The situation got to a point where the contestants and their supporters resorted to campaign of calumny in the media.
After much intrigues, Prof. Akpagu from the northern senatorial zone of Cross River, who is presently the deputy vice chancellor (Administration), was appointed.
His appointment was announced by the chairman of the University Governing Council, Chief Emmanuel Inwuanyanwu.
Chief Inwuanyanwu disclosed that eight candidates participated in the process and after thorough screening and interview of the candidates, Prof. Akpagu emerged top with 74 percent.
The university information officer, Mr. Effiong Eyo told Nigerian Pilot that “Professor Akpagu, the second vice chancellor to emerge from the Faculty of Arts, will take over from Prof James Epoke whose tenure ends on November 30, 2015.”
